Ion Television is a television network which first began broadcasting on August 31, 1998. The network is owned by ION Media Networks (formerly Paxson Communications). The station brands itself as KRON 4, keeping the station's previous branding while adding "My" to go with the network's naming conventions, only during MyNetworkTV programming. It is changed again to "KRON 4" during other programming. KRON can also be seen in Ukiah on K41AF channel 41. From its founding in 1949 until December 2001, KRON was affiliated with NBC, and was one of that network's strongest affiliates. The station has the distinction of being the only MyNetworkTV affiliate with a Big Three-style newscast schedule (i.e., in that it carries morning, midday, 4, 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts).
